What is the latest update on this Router?
Back in Dec 2016, I received an e-mail from Netgear with a link to a new Security Update for my R8000 Router. I was not able to complete the update until now. The link on the e-mail was for update:...
You can always find the latest official firmware on the support pages for your device:

This says the latest is Firmware Version 1.0.3.36.
The manual there will also tell you how to update the firmware yourself. It comes as a zip file that you have to unpack to get at the .chk file.
