Okay so I purchased a ethernet cable tester, turns out the cable was indeed bad. I went ahead and created a new cable, and it does have a gigabit connection.
Lesson learned dont trust your laptops lan port, try more than on device, and most likely it is the cable.

A lan cable tester is your best friend when a cable is in question can save hours of trouble shooting when a piece of copper wire has a problem. I have been there before and learned my lesson the hard way it took a whole day before I replaced a brand new just out of the bag lan cable with another one just to find out the first one was bad saying to myself all the time that first cable has to be good it is brand new.
