[WLAN access rejected: incorrect security] from MAC ** ** ** ** ** ** , Friday, Dec 04,2020 23:11:54

I found this in my router log this morning:

[WLAN access rejected: incorrect security] from MAC ** ** ** ** ** **, Friday, Dec 04,2020 23:11:54

The MAC address is not one of my devices.  Does this mean someone has tried to get into my system and (hopefully) failed, as access control has done its job?  Or that someone has accidentally clicked the wrong wifi in the list - we are quite congested.

Where "my router" is what, exactly?

That's how I'd read it.  Where "access control" means the basic
wireless passphrase, not "Access Control" as in ADVANCED > Security >
    Access Control.

If I were curious, then I might run the experiment: Try to connect
with some known-MAC device using a bad passphrase, and see what appears

    in that log.

      My router is r8000

Router access password changed from default.

Wireless passphrase set (changed from default as matter of course when router set up)

Access control in security set to block all new devices, offending mac address now in blocked list.

I did alter my passphrase slightly and tried to connect and it gave a similar message.
