2 routers. Can't attache the cable modem to the new Netgear
I just purchased a RS300. After unplugging the ethernet cable from my old router (the cable that goes to the modem) and into the RS300 I could not get an internet connection. If I keep the old router...

The modem is one supplied by Spectrum (service provider). There aren't any identifiable markings on it. The Modem does work fine with the Asus router.
I tried both both the GUI and a web browser.
When the Netgear is attached to the LAN port it constantly looses it's connection to the internet. I'm beginning to wonder if the Netgear router is defective. No connection at all to the when attached directly to the modem.

Thank you for your reply.
I understand - I'm not very skilled in this type of thing.
It's modem only no Router or LAN ports.
I have an Ethernet switch attached to the LAN port of the Asus router. The Netgear is attached to one of the switches LAN ports.
The WiFi client looses connection to the Netgear. It will connect initially but fails within a few seconds.
Sometimes the Internet light on the Netgear stays on (connected) other times it drops the internet connection (indicating no connection)
Only one pic allowed at a time right now. Let me know if you need another of the front of the modem.
The additional 'thin wire" you see is for voice. I'm sure you knew that though.

So if you power OFF the modem, then disconnect the ASUS router from the modem and connect the RS router to the modem, power ON the modem then power ON the RS, Does the RS then work?
I believe that's a base modem Hitron modem.

I did try that. The Netgear will not connect to te modem at all like that.
