I Don't understand how the RS300 operates.
I have had the router for 3 days and have it set up and working, but I have some questions. At first, I couldn't connect to the 5G band. I changed the channel from auto to 153 and got that working. ...

Glad you got it working. Please mark your thread as solved so others will know. Be sure to save off a back up configuration to file for safe keeping. Saves time if a reset is needed.

The usual boilerplate questions to eliminate some of the more common issues that crop up here.
What firmware version do you have on the RS300?
A number is more useful than "the latest". There may be newer versions, or "hot fixes", that do not show up if you check for new firmware with an app or in the browser interface.
If there is one it might also help if you told people the make and model number of the modem/gateway/ONT that connects this router to the Internet. Is it, by any chance, also a router, with a set of LAN ports on the back?
I ask because a lot of people turn up here trying to put a router behind a modem that is also a router. That can complicate troubleshooting.

Thank you for the response.
The firmware version is V1.0.1.74. From what I can find, it's the latest.
Channels are 2.4 = auto, 5G = 153, 6G =181 (PSC)
I think my biggest problem I have used older routers and don't know what to expect with something this new.
I will have time this PM and will set the router back to default and start from scratch, and see if that helps.
Will also download a Wifi analyzer app and measure that after I reset everything.
Thanks again.

I reset the router to the default setting,s then re-installed everything back in using the QR code and Nighthawk App.
Put in the same channel numbers and the problem I was having is gone and it's working great now.
Something got messed up the first time, what?? 🙄
