Need to set-up an RS500 with a Modem
Hi, I am having a dry run in order to set-up the Modem to see if it works before I move cables and install my RS500. As part of the Modem install I have to fix the ip address of my PC to 192.168.1.1 ...
Yes. Should work.
Need to let the PC be auto configured by the RS router. You don't need to set an IP address on the PC. The Pc will get an IP address from the RS router when it's connected to the RS Router.

Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the NG router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the NG router gets from the modem. https://kb.netgear.com/25891/DMZ-on-NETGEAR-routers

3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the NG router to the modem, LAN to LAN configure AP mode on the NG router.

Thank you very much for such a speedy reply.
I am,as I am sure you have concluded, a bit of an amatuer particularly when it comes to Networking which is why I knew it was not going to be easy for me to manage this. I was therefore quite concerned when I found out that Ng were no longer offering a Modem/Router but just a router so I approached it to see if it could be made simpler.
I chose the Vigor because it was apparently either a simple Modem or Modem/router depending on my choice when I initially set it up. (see instructions attached that came with the Vigor 167). As I couldn't actually read the instructions pamphlet, in particular the last page "Software Configuration" I went online to try to find the instructions hoping they would be more readable. I found them and they are more readable
I now think, having read your really full advice, that I should have not taken notice of the "Note" box under "Software Configuration" but confirm the Modem only mode and then connect the RS500 and set-up the connection like I did for the D6400, Is that correct?
