Turn it OFF.
- kadmus11Dec 05, 2024StarProbably a dumb question, but what does it do? I have the armour subscription as a few of my iot devices will never get another firmware update and I'm guessing that it protects them.

NG has been crickets about this new feature intro'd last year. We've asked for more details. Seems something to keep the router safe. Not sure though.

Been running my RAX50v2 this last week and noticed my connected PC was getting DNS errors and pages not loading. After disabling PE, been working fine.

Bit concerning that they are not specifying what it actually is. I guess if you've been getting the same errors then it must be that. I'll switch it off and see. Maybe it's an issue with whatever version it is at the moment.

Ya, others I posted to having them disable it seems to have fix similar bad behavior as well.
Ya, Like to know what it's really doing. Seem to not be working as intended and having giving users bad experiences.

LOL, got this from the NG Chat AI on there support page:
The Protection Engine in NETGEAR Armor provides security features like Anomaly Detection, Brute Force Protection, Exploit Prevention, DoS and DDoS Protection, and Sensitive Data Protection. It helps safeguard your home network by monitoring abnormal behavior, preventing hacking attempts, protecting against exploits, blocking DoS and DDoS attacks, and securing sensitive data transmissions.Related Information

Hi kadmus11,
Please let me know if turning off the Router Protection function addresses your issue. That is also the suggestion I was going to ask you to try.
Router Protection protects the router itself from the attacks from the WAN (Internet) side as well as from the LAN side. It blocks malicious probes like port scans (to the router) and the attacks specifically targeting known vulnerabilities, if there is any, on the router. When a new volnuerability discovered on the router, we will update the protection engine automatically and quickly to prevent the vulnerability from being explored.

Shall do. Hopefully it has, but it's a shame as it seems that might have been a useful feature.

It does seem to have fixed the issue. No DNS issues on windows since I turned it off. Do you think it is that feature in general? Or a specific update?

Seen similar issues on other NH routers, i.e. my RAX50v2 that's online currently. Disabled PE and problem stopped happening.
Seems like there needs to be some review and tuning up on PE.
Glad disabling helped you out.
