Re: Can't Access Router With IP Or Routerlogin.com With Ethernet BE9200
I am having the exact same problem with a brand new RS500 (BE12000).
First symptom is that browsing the web fails because the router doesn't respond to DNS requests. I too have had to hardcode the DNS servers instead of relying on the routers "DNS Proxy". It makes no difference which web browser is used. In fact, if I open a cmd prompt and do a "nslookup www.netgear.com" the request just times out and fails.
And as you've found out, the routers web interface also becomes unusable.
And after some unknown event (or amount of time), everything starts working as it should. The "log" under Advanced/Administration doesn't show anything unusual.
I've opened a case with Netgear. We'll see where that goes.

Turning off "Protection Engine" (Advanced/Security/Protection Engine) solves all of these problems.
Good to know. Ya I saw issues with PE with my RS600 so I disabled it. Started working better. Hopefully next FW update will have better PE tuning.

I have two Dell pcs that are getting blocked when Protection Engine is on. And there is no record of the problem other than DNS lookups failing and getting connection refused when attempting to reach the routers (admin) web interface.
Can you please elaborate on what sort of "malicious" behavior causes the router to block access?
Without some sort of logging, how are we supposed to know what the "malicious" behavior is? Browsing the web or download email isnt on its own malicious.
