RS300 How to print router configuration for backup purposes

In the dim ages, I was able to completely print the router config out of a browser by using the "gofullpage" extension inside of Chrome or Edge - it got all of the iFrame contents expanded and printed perfectly.

Today, it looks like that extension will no longer work on iFrames.

So, in order to print the configuration out, I have to set here and piddle with Chrome to expand each page, and reposition the page slider multiple times to print each portion of the webpage, to get the whole content printed out.

What a waste of time, when something simple should be a click and shoot.

Does Netgear have any way to fully print dump the configuration, so I can move it offsite for backup purposes?

Cisco, and just about any other brand, has the capability to print their configs in their entirety, with no muss or fuss.

Let me know, please.

  • CrimpOn does a lot more backups and log analysis than I think most on here. He might be a great resource for best backup. I switch routers so much that I try to keep my network simple for ease of transition

  • With security becoming more and more prominent today, there maybe some road block to what router mfr let there users see from the internal workings from there routers. NG removed telnet years ago and possible that backup configuration files may become more secure as well that are saved off from the router. Can try to decompile those if you want too. Over all there is no easy way of dumping what is configured on the router. Best way would be to take screen captures of various sections of the web ui for your needs.

I agree.  It is frustrating that vendors feel no obligation to reveal the "internals" of product configurations. And even more frustrating that a configuration that has been painstakingly created on one system cannot be transferred to another system.  Making screen captures of every web page appears to be the most obvious process.

Netgear provides a method to save the configuration to a file that is downloaded to the computer which is running the web interface. This backup can be uploaded to the same router and is a useful tool for those rare occasions when the user is forced to perform a Factory Reset and wipe out the entire configuration.

This file is encoded.   See the last paragraph of this web page ("Encryption Scheme")

https://github.com/Fysac/orbicfg  (I have no experience with "Go".  Have seen similar posts on Github in Python and Perl but they do not appear to be active any more.)

Some enterprising users have created programs that will convert an Orbi configuration file to plain text. For example, these programs for Windows:
