RS500 router - Internet feels much faster with IPV6 disabled?

Any insights why my internet and general browsing feels much faster with IPv6 disabled in the router. My ISP is Xfinity and it provides native Ipv6 support with DHCPv6-PD. The same has been my observation with my previous router R6700AX.

Also the internet speeds see a few Mbps increase with IPv4 only, although this is subjective. Definitely enabling IPV6 takes a toll on the router. It might be an ISP routing issue too.

Speed tests would have variance at different times, I feel that the web pages load a bit faster and pings are slightly faster with ipv6 disabled, although the difference in performance is not huge.

Ok. FYI, the beta FW mentioned was released so it's most current.

You mean the latest FW for the RS500 router? It's still at 1.0.5.22 version.

Ya my bad. Was not fully awake when I posted that.

Beta is still available if you wanna try it.

  • I have an RS700 and Ookla Speedtest reports and extra 15 Mbps down and extra 13 Mbps up with IPv 6 disabled. Using Cloudflare DNS.

Thanks, do the web pages seem to load a bit faster with ipv6 disabled? Also the latency has improved a bit. The YouTube videos in my Google TV streamer also load much faster.

To be honest I don't notice any difference at all. The difference between 935 Mbps and 950 Mbps is negligible.

Tried custom IPv6 DNS to see if there is a difference?

Also there is beta FW available I believe for the RS500...

Tried with custom ipv6 DNS, there's no difference. Will try the beta FW, but not sure if that will help with the dual stack ipv4 and ipv6 performance.

What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6A STP is recommended.

Using ISP detected IPv6 DNS or custom DNS?

Is Protection Engine enabled on the RS router?
