rs500 slow upload speed
I am using Verizon fios 1 gig with a nighthawk rs500 and getting slow upload speed. Speeds measured using speedtest.net. I am showing wired speed but wifi speed is even worse at 2-3 mbps. Wired s...

It didn't help me either. I asked tier 2 support multiple times if I should return the router and was told to keep troubleshooting. Here I am 3 months in with a router that doesn't work that I can't return. Netgear offered me a replacement that would also not work for what it's worth.
I do have a cool looking $400 paperweight though....

Might ask NG support if there is any kind of beta FW available to help check this.

- Brian91223Mar 13, 2025AspirantI returned the RS200 I bought to Amazon within days after purchasing when I couldn’t figure this issue out. It’s totally unacceptable. Verizon Fios is a huge ISP and very reliable. I bought the latest Google Nest product and it immediately got the full upload and download speeds that my Verizon Plan specifies.

Regarding the slow upload speed issue, especially when the RS router is connected to an ONT, we have a trial firmware build that may resolve the issue. It worked in our test.
If you would like to give it a try, please let me know your RS router model and I will PM you the firmware.
Thanks.
- ishahed3914Apr 07, 2025AspirantSame issue for me on the rs500. I’ve pmd for the beta fw.
- Zach249Apr 10, 2025AspirantI am having the same slow upload speed with my RS200 when plugged directly into the ONT. I would like to try the beta FW

Firmware sent through PM. Thanks.

After installing the beta firmware, I am now consistently getting 300+ Mbps upload speeds (300 - 800Mbps, depending on whether I test on my phone or laptop, or using the browser speedtest or an app [Windows or Android]). These tests are all on Wi-Fi, expect/hope even better when I get ethernet set up in my new home.
My only concern now would be that a new FW is released that does not have the fixes in this beta version and my performance tanks again. Are the fixes form the beta branch going to be incorporated into the next wide release?

Yes, the fix will be included in the next official release; just we don't have the timeline for the release at this point.
- SilverhawkApr 20, 2025AspirantCan I get the beta firmware. I’m having issues with 1 gig fios also.

- Pool_playen_bobApr 24, 2025AspirantMay I also have this beta? My upload is also atrocious. RS500 is my model as well.
- SunnyskiesMay 02, 2025AspirantThank you for helping us.
May i also have the beta firmware for the RS500
Please ?

Good Evening,
I am also experiencing this extremely frustrating issue on my RS500 router I purchased a couple months ago. My ISP is ATT 1G Fiber and am getting limited speeds as low as 50mbps. I constantly have to restart my router in order for me to achieve the speeds I am paying for. If i can also get this BETA FW you mentioned, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

Hi CRuiz96 ,
The latest RS500 firmware release v1.0.1.90 addresses the slow upstream speed issue, did you try that firmware already? You can get the firmware from the link below.
https://kb.netgear.com/000066665/RS500-Firmware-Version-1-0-1-90
The symptomm you mentioned is not exactly same as the slow upstream speed issue. If that firmware does not work for you, we will need to look into it. Thanks.

Hi BH_C,
Unfortunately, the latest firmware does not solve the issue I am having. As it stands, the PC I am currently using supports 1G speeds, but since the purchase of my RS500 router, I have noticed that my PC's bit rate is limited to 200 Mbps unless I restart the router manually. When I turn off my PC for the night and run it again the next day, I am back to the limited speeds unless I restart my router. I then began to notice this on my other devices connected to the wifi. I generally keep a good eye on how many devices are connected to the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands, going as far as removing any unrecognized devices from being able to connect. There are no more than 10 devices connected to the WiFi at once in my home, and I have taken many measures to try and fix this issue on my own, including factory resetting the router and finding a guide to properly setting the ATT router/modem to passthrough mode and manually setting the RS500 routers MAC address. I have yet to find a solution and would like to know if you or support could be of any help. Thank you!

Hi CRuiz96 ,
Can you confirm if my understanding below regarding your issue is correct?
* A PC wired to the router (i.e. through an Ethernet cable) is capable of 1Gbps, but it sometimes could became limited by 200mbps (upstream or downstream?), and restarting the router can restore the speed to 1Gbps. But some time later, it could become 200mbps or less again. Can you let me know:
- Did you use Ookla speed test?
- When you run speed test from the Nighthawk App, what are the upstream and downstream speeds you get? This is to check the speeds between the RS500 and the Ookla sever on the internet.
- When you run Ookla speed test speed test from a WiFi connected device (e.g. iphone), what are the upstream and downstream speeds you get? please use the 5GHz WiFi connection, and please let me know which WiFi device (brand/model) is used. This is to check the speeds between the WiFi device and the Ookla server on the internet (via the RS500 router).
Thanks.

Thank you for the reply,
To clarify, my PC is NOT connected via ethernet. I have it connected via WiFi like all my other devices.
my downstream is what becomes limited anywhere from 50 mbps to 200 mbps. I restart my RS500 router, and in doing so, my speeds go back to the normal range of 800mbps to 1GB.
The issue that I run into is that the speeds revert back to being limited what seems like every 24 hrs. If I shut down my PC and run it back up the next morning, my download speed will go back to limited. I am then forced to restart my router again to go back to normal speeds.
Ive gone through numerous troubleshooting steps and have yet to find a solution for this issue.

I can also confirm that I am utilizing the 5GHz wifi connection.
