RS500 takes forever to connect remotely with devices on my home network
I have tried resetting my router. I've fiddled with the settings. When I'm home on wifi, I can access everything quickly. If I'm somewhere else, it takes so long that most of the time, I don't care anymore or I miss whatever is going on, like someone at my door. I've looked at remote settings and while I've made some improvements, it's not working well. I'm on fiber optic and get good speeds when I test, but not when I try and access anything.

More detail is essential.
What device is not responding correctly?
p.s. Is Anywhere Access enabled on the nighthawk 'app'? Does it seem to function correctly?

Are you using OpenVPN?
Also, are you using a PC? Or a phone/tablet?

For typical Internet of Things (IoT) devices, such as doorbell cameras, refrigerators, Roombas, thermostats, etc. there is no "setting" involved. Each of the devices opens a connection through the internet to the manufacturer cloud. When away from home, the smartphone app opens a connection to the cloud and the cloud connects it to the user devices. Older cable systems with very limited upload speed could cause problems, but this is unlikely with a modern fiber connection.
Might be a good idea to start with the user community for the specific devices which are not working well.

What devices are you trying to access from remote locations?
Is this thru there application?
What remote settings are you changing? Is this on the router or something else?
How long does it take?
What FW verion is on the RS router?
Brand and model# of ISP modem the router is connected too?
Is IPv6 enabled or disabled?
