I'll just add from my experience that I had issues in setting up the 2nd unit in AP mode via wireless and finally connected via ethernet cable to a laptop and it worked without an issue.

Yes if you have a 2nd RS, you have to set it up to get into the RS web page, then set AP Mode.

I'll just add from my experience that I had issues in setting up the 2nd unit in AP mode via wireless and finally connected via ethernet cable to a laptop and it worked without an issue.

Do you mean if you connected two RS700s (one in router mode and the other in AP mode) through Ethernet then you had problems connecting a WiFi client to any of the RS700s? If you would like to work with us directly to address the issues, please PM me.
Here is the KB article describing how to setup the AP mode. You will see a Bridge mode in the KB, it is a way to connect two routers wirelessly but it is not officially supported on RS700.
