Slow upload speeds on router Speedtest
Observing an interesting situation with upload speeds on my RS700 connected to a Verizon ONT, fiber gigabit. The upload Speedtest on the RS700 tops out at about 300-ish Mbps; at the same time a hard...

For some reason I can't reply to my original topic (https://community.netgear.com/t5/Nighthawk-with-WiFi-7-BE/Slow-upload-speeds-on-router-Speedtest/td-p/2363429) so I will post an update here. After swapping ONTs for VZW's 2Gbit service I am able to max out downloads and uploads. The internal RS700 test showed 2,455 Mbps down and 2,495 Mbps up. Wifi gets around 1,500 down and 1,500 up which is ok for wireless. At this point I am 100% certain that the issue is specifically with RS700 and G-211M-C ONTs. So if any of you have issues with uploads and have Verizon's 1Gbit service running on their G-211M-C ONT, your only solution at the moment is to swap ONTs by requesting a 2Gbit service (you can make a call afterwards to downgrade, they will simple provision for lower speeds but you get to keep the new ONT). Alternatively, you can look for a new router 🙂

I have called Verizon they will not change out the ONT because of a non supplied router issue. Since I do not live in the 2gb area I can not purchase it. I have filed a case with Netgear and they are trying to resolve it however they have come up short now. This is a little frustrating given this is a $700 set up which is acting like a $100 one and before this I had no issues. Today is the last day for me to return this but I am unsure what will happen if Netgear can not solve the issue.

I'd return the router then. Not idea when NG will get this fixed. If they do, can get another.

Regarding the slow upload speed issue, especially when the RS router is connected to an ONT, we have a trial firmware build that may resolve the issue. It worked in our test.
If you would like to give it a try, please let me know your RS router model and I will PM you the firmware.
Thanks.
- FcotanisApr 09, 2025AspirantMay I please also have the said firmware, I also have the exact same issue. Thank you.

I would also like to try this firmware. RS700S
- FcotanisApr 09, 2025AspirantThank you for the quick answer.
Hardware version RS700
Currently on firmware v1.0.7.96 - FcotanisApr 09, 2025AspirantGood morning, it appears the url cut off in the message. It ends with a “…” and when I try to cut and paste it anyway it lets me know that the link has been removed which is very likely because it cut off.
Could you please try again? 🙏🏻 - FcotanisApr 09, 2025Aspirant
After applying the firmware linked (Thank you!), I noticed the following:
Wireless download speeds continue to be 100%
Wireless(on the 6Ghz network, 3ft away from router) upload still lags behind, however it improved from a ridiculous 20% to now 64-71% of what it should be (and that I've personally seen with a previous wireless router that is now resting in peace.)
Wired speeds are 100%.

Been following the topic as I too have similar issues.
Did the test firmware help?
RS700
V1.0.7.96_2.0.96
- FcotanisApr 09, 2025AspirantI think the test firmware helped a bit where it got me from 200Mbps+ to 300Mbps+ but I’m still not getting the full speed up 🤷🏻. I’m going to collect more information (ONT details, try another reboot, test) and later and post back

So do wired connections get 100% upload speeds? and it's the wifi connections that cannot reach 100% upload speeds?
Was the previous firmware (v1.0.7.96 or v1.0.7.86...) able to reach 100% upload speeds for wired connections? Thanks.

BH-C, need another tester? 🙂

I've done some more homework.
Upload wired speeds to the speedtest.net are 100% with the experimental firmware. Before the experimental firmware I am having a tough time recalling this, I have run so many tests.
I've installed a local open speedtest server on one of my machines. Local to the Router I am seeing above the 100% Verizon rated speed by 2-300Mbps. So the Router has more wireless capacity than the Verizon data stream by 2-300Mbps.
This makes me think that something happens when the router negotiates with Verizon ONT to provide data via the wireless protocol. With that thought in mind I went to the web gui for RS700, QoS and clicked the "Take Speed Test" button and that yielded perfect numbers which baffled me.
Thank you for looking further into this.

working well.

I am having the exact same problem. I have an RS200 Nighthawk. I thought it was defective so I bought another one. It has the same problem -- slow upload speed of 3MBS even though my Apple MacBook gets 300MBS when connected directly to my Verizon ONT.
Can you please share the updated firmware with me? I am so eager to get this problem solved. Working from home is brutal right now. Thank you.

Please make contact with NG support and ask for any beta FW available for your model RS router.

I've sent you a PM with the link for the trial firmware.

Got it. Thanks.
Will install and test after work today.

Not kidding, this firmware made a HUGE difference for my setup. Installed, router rebooted, ran speed test, and now speeds are where I expected.
Only gotcha I found is my READYSHARE 2tb SSD didn't come back online until I unplugged and re-plugged it in. Not sure if it's related or not.
