Two Issues...Need Help Please!

With the assumptions 1) your configuration was static, 2) operated satisfactorily until recently, 3) you have set everything to "auto" - I would suspect a recent firmware version was automatically downloaded. Firmware 1.2.7.2 was published June 26th, 2026. As always, YMMV with FW updates. I would recommend the following steps in an attempt to recover and verify.
- Turn off automatic firmware downloads (ADVANCED > Administration > Router Update)
- From the NETGEAR download center for RS500, get the previous FW version 1.0.6.22
- Manually install FW 1.0.6.22 from the expanded downloaded .zip (ADVANCED > Administration > Router Update - manual tab)
- Router should reboot.
I hope this suggestion can help. I would be interested to hear your feedback. If this resolves your problems I also have additional recommendations from my experience with an RS700.
Thanks...wonder if you saw my newest issue from today....we lost our SSIDs out of nowhere, so went to check....the router turned on Smart Connect, so we could not see our different bands anymore. To make it worse, we CANNOT UNCHECK IT! We cannot turn off Smart Connect. The check boxes are all grayed out. This router is horrible. Literally in the middle of the day, just turned it on by itself and will not let us turn it off. We do not know what to do. Tried usual unplugging, checked all the settings, etc.
You sure nobody else has access to the routers web page. The router would not turn that seeing back on by itself. Needs user selectable interaction.
I'd factory reset the router and setup from scratch. Be sure you input a new admin log in pass word that you only know and don't give it out.
