Can someone please help me out here? And please i'm not an advanced user that even knows what SSL is. 🙂
See Post 37 on this thread:
That is about as simple as we can make it. But it does require use of ssh. We can give you the commands needed to copy the files from a NAS share to the correct folder.

How sad that they have ended selling NASes.
As you can see now i'm not even with you when you say this about shares, 🙂
Is it a folder or something on my NAS?

Is this what you're talking about?

Yes, that is the list of your shares. How does the title of that page translate into English? (I see "Shares" as the title on my page).
You need to begin by download the two files in post 37 of the discussion thread I linked to:
Then you need to copy them into one of those shares. I suggest using Backup.
You will also need to go into system->settings->services and enable ssh. Check the "enable password authentication" checkbox. There is no need to upload a key.
Do you use a Windows PC? If not, do you have a Mac? It'd be helpful to know that before giving you the other instructions.

No, those are not the files. You need to download the two dropbox links in the post

Copy these files into the Backup share.
Since you are running Windows, you can connect with ssh by first installing a program called putty:
If your PC has a 64 bit processor, then download and install the 64-bit x86 MSI file.
If you have a 32 bit processor (or don't know), then download and install the 32-bit x86 MSI file
Then run the program. You'll see something like this:
Put the NAS name (or the IP address if you know it) into the bot at the top and then click "open" at the bottom. You might then get a windows dialog box asking you something about a fingerprint. Enter ok (or yes) at that point.
You should then see a black text box open on the screen.
Log in as root and enter the NAS admin password when prompted.
Let me know when you get to this step.

- ToddeSweMar 02, 2025Guide

Did you remember to enable ssh as I said in post 9:

All this does is set up the NAS to access the archived Debian repositories (instead of trying to access them in a location that has been taken down by the Debian folks).

Yes i've turned on SHH in my NAS settings. Should be on somewhere else like Windows as well?

Yes. I didn't give you the rest of the steps.
Now enter these commands:
cd /etc/apt cp sources.list sources.list.orig cp /data/Backup/apt.conf . cp /data/Backup/sources.list . apt-get updateNote that the bottom two cp commands end in a period - don't leave that out.
If you see any errors, stop at that point and post a screenshot.

dont i have to open a window to put this lines in? What kind of window is it?
- ToddeSweMar 02, 2025Guide
The problem is that when i write my poassword the cursor doesn't move or entering anything at all so it says the password is invalid and the window is closed. Should i use port 22 as it says?

yes.

But you are able to enter root before then?
Are you using the default admin password (which is password)? If you are, then try changing that using the NAS web ui.
- ToddeSweMar 02, 2025Guide
No it says login: the first thing when the window is opened.
I use the same password i've set to log into my NAS webinterface as admin. I did try password now but it did not work.
Now i'm of to bed... so you have some time to think about this. So far THANKS so very much for helping me out.
- ToddeSweMar 03, 2025Guide
If i had read carefully i had noticed that you told me to put in root as a username. 🙂 I have now done all steps but there was some errors at the end, se picture. Maybe its normal?

The screenshots look correct, and of course transmission did install.
I don't have apps installed on my own NAS, so I can't give advice on specific apps. But none of the update packages in your earlier screenshot were appropriate for readynas.
Almost all the ReadyNAS app versions were created by third parties (not Netgear), and the folks who created them generally aren't maintaining them. One of the few exceptions is plex.
Honestly, I think you are better off installing stuff on a PC.
- ToddeSweMar 03, 2025Guide
So sorry to hear this!
I have to buy a new one maby ... i will see if i can live with it as it is now. 🙂
HUGE thanks for the help so far.
