Netgear picked this up and located a bug in the OS. They fixed it on my systems (OS 6.6.1), and indicated that the fix will be in the next release.
I was very impressed by Netgear's quick response and efforts.

Have you tried the latest firmware release already? ReadyNAS OS6 firmware version 6.6.1.
