Compiling kernel modules for 6.1.9 fails
I've recently updated to 6.1.9 and am now trying to recompile my kernel modules for this kernel. I'm using the kernel from http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GPL/ReadyNASOS_V6.1.9_WW_src.zip. My device is a ReadyNAS 516.
Whatever I try, my modules always end up incompatible: modprobe results in <module>: disagrees about version of symbol module_layout
I've compiled the kernel by using "make ARCH=x86_64" and "make ARCH=x86_64 modules". I've also tried to copy ./arch/x86/configs/defconfig.x86_64 to .config and arch/x86/configs/readynas_defconfig to .config before compiling. This used to work with readynasos 6.1.8 and before. So I'm starting to think that the kernel/config included in the 6.1.9 zip file isnt the one thats now actually running on my device. Could this be true, or am I doing something wrong?

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredWhat kernel version is in the GPL sources?
Does that match the version on your NAS. We did update the kernel in 6.1.9. - bacobartAspirantlinux-3.0.101-0.15 is what's included in 6.1.9.zip. That's the same folder name as in 6.1.8 -- also the .config in 6.1.8.zip and 6.1.9.zip are the same. So looks like 6.1.9.zip doesnt include the proper kernel/config then?
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredYes. We will need to re-release the GPL code for 6.1.9 with the correct kernel.
- bacobartAspirantThank you!
- bacobartAspirantI've been able to successfully compile the kernel modules with the linux-3.0.101-0.35 kernel included in the update zip. Much appreciated, thank you!
FYI, the zip now includes both kernel linux-3.0.101-0.15 and linux-3.0.101-0.35 -- I'm not sure if that is intended. - Hi,
Official link for 6.1.9 GPL sources is still not up to date - http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2649/related/1
I lost one evening before to dig into the forum and find this topic... - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredWhen did you download the GPL from the kb.netgear.com site?
