iCal sync also worked in carDAV for me on OS X ("Calendar" under mavericks). Have you tried to configure an iOS device for cardDAV with Baikal ?
Because I tried for my iPhone all possible adresses either w/o http:// ; with "principals" or "address books" ; and with or without SSL. None of this solution worked on iOS7.
