No access to photos from outside world
Like several others on this forum, I am getting no joy trying to access my photos from the outside world. I have been at this now for 9 days, and have just finished putting in 6 hours straight. Any help would be most appreciated!
NAS: ReadyNAS Business Pro, RAIDiator 4.2.19 , 192.168.1.108
Win 7: Static IP - 192.168.1.50
Router: Linksys WRT54GS. UPnP is shown enabled, but I also forwarded port 8086 to 192.168.1.108, DHCP
Photo ii: Port number used for Photos II service:
Status: Ready to use Web Forwarding Service No issue found.
Login URL: http://photos.readynas.com/hmichelsusa
Public Access URL: http://photos.readynas.com/hmichelsusa/[PhotographerUserName]
Disable auto configuration of UPnP capable router.
Diagnosis:
OK: All connection tests from ReadyNAS Photos II to UPnP Router and photos.readynas.com site have passed.
OK: Hostname hmichelsusa is available.
OK: Successfully accessed Photos II (http://68.49.62.123:8086) from internet.
OK: Successfully found your public IP (68.49.62.123).
I've rebooted the NAS several times, and after each change to the Router, I've rebooted, starting with unplugging the cable modem, router, switch, waiting 30 seconds and plugging back in the modem, router, and switch in that order.
Here is the URL in the "invitation" that I send out from photo ii: http://192.168.1.108:8086/photos2/ui/rnp2?a=6. Works fine on my internal network, but never outside that network.
Again, any help would be most appreciated; I'm about to give up on trying to use the NAS for anything except a backup. (and I have a NV+ I use as a backup to the Pro, kept off site mostly).

I don't know if you've solved this yet.
192.186.1.108 is the "LOCAL" IP address of your NAS and is private.
In order to access your NAS from the Internet you need to use your public IP which is assigned to you from your Internet Service Provider.
A static IP is best, although you can deal with a dynamic IP, you'll just have to keep your router online, or check your IP every time you reboot your router.
Try http://www.whatismyip.com/ to find out what your public IP address is.
So if your public IP address is 68.49.62.123 (as listed in your post), then you would need to send the out this URL in your invitation: http://68.49.62.123:8086/photos2/ui/rnp2?a=6
Good Luck

A better approach is to use a dynamic dns service like DynDNS, then you can use a name instead of an IP address. There are several free DDNS options.makomark wrote: So if your public IP address is 68.49.62.123 (as listed in your post), then you would need to send the out this URL in your invitation: http://68.49.62.123:8086/photos2/ui/rnp2?a=6
