Synology DSM 4.1-2688 on Ready NAS PRO6
Hi.
If someone would like to test it ...
1. download W32DiskImageWriter https://dl.dropbox.com/u/8476146/qnology/win32diskimager-binary06.rar
2. download Modded SynologyDSM 4.1-2668++ bootloader and installation package, moded by trantor http://xpenology.trantor.be/XPEnology_DS3612xs_2668-repack-trantor.7z
3. download Synology Assistant: http://ukdl.synology.com/download/ds/DSAssistant/Assistant_win.php
4. write image (synoboot-repack-trantor.img) to USB flash drive with W32DiskImageWriter (use USB with max. 4GB size)
5. turn off your NAS
6. remove your hard disk from NAS and put another one in ( for testing ) - this way you will not lose your data !!!
7. put USB flash drive in front USB interface from NAS
8. press + hold BACKUP button & turn on the NAS
9. NAS will Boot from front USB flash drive
10. Launch Synology Assistant from your Windows workstation and click 'Search'. If you've done everything correctly you'll see a new 'DiskStation' has been found.
11. IMPORTANT -- Disconnect the USB flash drive from the computer for this next step.
12. Right-click the new 'DiskStation' and choose 'Install'. Browse and select the file wich you downloaded (DSM_DS3612xs_2668-Repack-trantor.pat)
13. Choose a Name for the DiskStation, a new default admin password and IP configuration.
14. After installation is complete the DiskStation will reboot automatically.
15. Power it OFF manually now.
16. IMPORTANT-- INSERT USB Flash drive back into PC --
17. Power on the NAS (hold down Backup button or change boot settings priority).
18. DSM will boot normally.
19. Back to Synology Assistant click 'Search' again. Depending on the name and network config you chose during installation you will see now see a DiskStation has been found with the NAME you chose.
20. The previous Installation Progress bar will show 100% complete and you can now access your DiskStation by opening a browser and pointing to the IP its configured with.
Here are my Results:
- LAN1 working
- LAN2 working
- USB working
- RESET working (if not try to use smaller, older USB)
- SHUTDOWN working (if not try to use smaller, older USB)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- FAN regulation not working (always full speed)
- DISPLAY always shows ReadyNas (does not dim)
- POWER OFF button (false shutdown)
- WOL not working
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Anyway:
- FAN regulation can be fixed with hardware
- DISPLAY does not disturb me
- UPS not working (maybe someone can fix it)
- POWER OFF works with web interface, mobile programs (DS Finder), or shutdown sheduler
- 24/7 NAS does not need wol :)
I am also not the linux expert, so with linux knowing, this could be your new NAS :)
OK, enough for now ...
TNX again (andy, fonix232, Mattyshack, trantor).
