Hi mark3,
I have 6.6.1 running on a RN204 and may have had a problem but I can't quite remember. Either way, I updated to the latest Softether server using brlathanjr's technique in the thread below and everything works fine.

I am really new at this---when you mention brlathanjr's technique, a few questions:
1. how do i get root? i looked in as admin using putty and got no where apt-get was not available
2. when i use wget, is it downloading off the internet directly onto the box? so unlike pushing the files to the box from the web interface, this gets them directly right?
3. do i type everything in at once? is it a script? some seem like individual commands but others like
make

1seem like they are part of a script. i also see that the VPN is no longer working under 6.6.0 . however unsure if it is my network configuration (now being behind a VPN). however the readynas app is able to tunnel back inot my readynas from the internet, thus i bleieve the VPN issue is tied to a version issue.
I have an x86 based 516

Ok, first of all, I am not familiar with the x86 based 516 but the principles are the same.
In answer to your points:
1. look futher up the thread I quoted, to calaba's opening post, that should help you
2. correct, although you need to make sure you get the correct version for your NAS. Mine has an ARM architecture not an x86 like yours, so you need to get the correct one for that.
3. they are indiviual commands but you can copy and paste and execute a few at once if you want to but only up to a point. For instance, the "1 1 1" you quote are the option numbers you should select when presented with various options.
There is a slight mistake (well there was for me) in that you need to change to the vpnserver directory before executing the make command
Hope that helps,
Jack

Jack,
Helps quite a bit. thank you. when you type the wget command it seems like i need to change that and get the particular one I need.
Two questions :
1. When I used putty and logged into the unit (as root) it told me apt was not avialble--some type of permissions error. However when i used the web based client "SSH in a box" (also by Poussin) then it seemed to give me the ability to use it.
whay would that be? i am using the same credentials for both. I would use the web based one except for the fact that it is not compatable with my browser, i get one line and have to scroll up to see the last line.... not ideal for this type of work.
2. should i install overtop of the last one or remove the old version first?
Thanks much!
