Backup - details on running jobs

Hi, I'm running readyOS on a readyNAS 102 with 2x 2TB drives and use a external USB2.0 hdd for backups. If you setup a full copy/clone job for this volumes, you notice that it takes a lot of time to process but you don't get any hint how long it will take (hours, days, ...). So I suggest:

  • add log entry when backup job started and finished

  • add 'duration' col at the backup table widget

  • display a timer at startpage/dashboard

  • send notification via mail when backup is finished

I know that predicting the ETA isn't that easy as it's dependend on the amount of data as well as it's structure (single big files or dozens of smal files, different filesystems, access during running a backup job, ...) but it's essential if users should be able to reliable save their work regualary. If this isn't comfortable (here: the time is predictable), they just don't do it and might get problems during updates or harddisk failures.

  • Is there any progress on that particular UX topic? Currently I'm still waiting to finish a backup job. Luckily it seems to consume more space on the ext. media so I have no clue when it will be finished :|
