Bug Report: NTP in Saskatchewan

System: Ready NAS 102
Firmware: 6.1.4

Issue:
Setting time to sync via NTP sets time to the wrong time in Saskatchewan. Cannot turn off Daylight Savings Time.

Saskatchewan time is GMT-6 with Daylight Savings year round. Saskatchewan does not set it's clocks back during winter. On normal Linux systems this is represented by the timezone GMT-6 Regina (which is listed in addition to standard GMT-6 Central Time). Sometimes it is represented by GMT-6 Central Time with a DST toggle.

See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_in_Saskatchewan for more info. Specifically http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_in_Saskatchewan#Saskatchewan_Time_Zone for Tz_database description.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Observe current time in Saskatchewan (from google for example) in winter
2. Goto: System -> Overview
3. Click: Gear after "Device Time"
4. Click: "Time Zone" and try to find a Saskatchewan time (choose GMT-6 Central Time (US & Canada))
5. Click: "Synchronize Time with an Internet Server"
6. Ensure valid NTP servers are present
7. Apply settings
8. Discover: Time is not set correctly, Off by an hour.

Mitigation:
Set time manually

Impact:
Time may be off or drift. Impact: Minor to medium.

  • It would be nice to have a check-box to enable/disable daylight savings time.
  • Similar "bug" for GMT-4 Caracas LaPaz - time is 30 minutes off
