I have a 4312x and I have put an Intel X540-T2 card in the 8x slot inside the chassis and it was detected. You could see in the networking tab eth0-eth3 as gigabit, and then eth4-eth7 as being 10-gigabit. I don't see any reason why the X520 card (the SFP+ one) wouldn't work. Maybe by now you've already gotten your ReadyNAS exchanged but hopefully this will help anyone else with a similar situation.
