Deleting files doesn't recover used space

This seems a common issue, but none of the published solutions has worked so far. Not exactly a n00b: I've been using Netgear NAS units for almost 10 years.

I recently reorganized a large number of media files to improve performance with a Plex Media Server. (The server runs on an always-on PC on my network.) During the first weekly backup, the backup NAS gave me warnings of decreasing storage. I have deleted several TB of redundant data and all snapshots, but there is no change in the available space. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

  • If the space still hasn't been reclaimed, then try running a balance from the volume settings wheel.

      Hi Doug6392

I can take a look at the logs if you need, to understand what is going on with the space issues. Download the logs zip file from the web admin page: System > Logs > Dowload Logs

Upload the zip file to Google drive, Dropbox or similar and make a link where I can download the log zip file. PM me this link, don't post it publicly here.

      Cheers

  • Thanks to both StephenB and rn_enthusiast for your replies. It appears that time solved the issue: a little more than 12 hours after I posted the message above, the system seems to have realized the space was free. All is now well, and this issue can be marked "solved".

    Stay well, everyone.
