Sorry, didn't get an email notification due to the edit. Anyway, 100% success. All the files that were previously unaccessible, I can now access again.
The nice people at Netgear helped me recover 15 years of personal photos. This service goes beyond anything that I ever experienced. What’s in it for them? I wish I knew as we could all learn from it.

If you are a satisfied customer, that is enough for me :)
It is really important to always have a backup! This is often neglected. Having 1 NAS is a single point of failure.
