I can't use the iTunes Sever because I do not have iTunes clients. Can I take the iTunes media library directly to the NAS without having to manually copy?
To clarify, you have a lot of music files, plus you have the iTunes library (which is a database that iTunes creates).
I think you want to put the music files on the NAS, stream them over DLNA, and perhaps manage them with iTunes on a Mac or PC. Is that correct?
You can do that with music that is not DRM protected, but you will need to manually copy your existing files. You can set up iTunes to look for your music on the NAS (though you probably will need to rebuild its database).
Music that is DRM protected needs a real iTunes to decrypt it. You can move the protected music files, and still have iTunes play them from there, but you won't be able to stream them with DLNA.
There are two easy-to-install DLNA servers - ReadyDLNA is built in, and plex is on the available apps list. There is also LMS (which I don't use), though my impression from posters here is that is a bit harder to install.
You should also put a backup plan in place, since RAID isn't enough to keep data safe. That could be in the cloud somewhere, or it could be a second local copy (on a PC or USB drive perhaps).
