Moving from 104 to 204
I have a 104 system with 3 two terabyte drives. How hard it is to replace the NAS hardware with a 204? Can I just pop the drives out of the 104 and pop them into the 204?

Should be able to simply move the disks across (keep the order the same).
Best if you can to get a scratch disk (must not be from your array), put it in the RN204 and upgrade the firmware to match what is on the RN104, then power down both systems, remove the scratch disk and move your disks across (keep the order the same).

I have decided to get the 314 model instead of the 204.
Can I assume that the switch from 104 -> 314 will be the same as suggested from 104 -> 204?
What happens to any configuration I have done to the 104 (IP, Apps, backups, etc) Can I back this up on the 104 and recover it to the 314?

You uninstall all the apps, then power down the system and migrate the disks (keeing the order). It then update the OS for x86 processor. Data and configuration should be preserved. After it settles down re-install the apps.
I always do recommend a backup, especially when you are playing with disks.

OK, so here is what I have:
- back up data from 102 (doing that automatically already, but excellent suggestion)
- remove apps from 102
- stick a spare drive into 314
- power up 314
- upgrade software 314
- power down 314
- power down 102
- move disks from 102 to 314 (keeping their order left-to-right)
- power up 314
Does it make sense to back up the configuration of 102 and then load it into 314? Its not like there is a lot of configuring, but that's what its there for after all.

Personally, I do not like backing up and restoring configs unless it is plain text (like a switch config). Depending on how expansive your settings are, it might be easier to just reconfigure quickly. RN314 is a way huge improvement than RN104. I use the RN314 at my desk a majority of the time.
