That tends to indicate it's not a power issue, or at least not the power brick. But it could be worthwhile trying one. Since it does the same thing without the drives, if you happen to have one, you could try a smaller supply (at least 1A) with no drives installed just to see if that's the issue before you invest in a replacement supply. But they are pretty cheap, so it's up to you if you want to just do a risk purchase of a replacement.
Bad RAM is another possibility, though I think the likelihood is also low.
Do you have a data backup? Have you converted to OS6, or was it still running 4.2.x? It'll matter if you need to look at data recovery.
