If I buy a newer Netgear NAS, will my 4 drives in RAID 5 swap over with no dataloss? - any recommendations? It doesnt need to be super great.
If you get an RN214, then you can directly migrate your drives. However, the RN214 will almost certainly ship with newer firmware than 6.8.0 - and it will automatically update the firmware on the disks to match the firmware in it's flash.
Similarly for an RN424 or above. Though those are x86 platforms, so if you have arm apps installed on the RN104 you will need to reinstall those after the migration.

Thanks for taking the time to reply - seems like good news for me.
The RN104 has been great (apart from trying to update it - that has been a nightmare with paired network settings), but I think this one is about to die :(
I'll buy a new power supply first and see if its that - its a bit weird that just even touching the din on the back causes it to restart, wiggling it in the socket causes it to go on and off and on and off etc.......so its either the power supply or the interface inside the 104....... but at least there is a backup plan - The 214 :)

Delete a Network Bond (round Robin) in 6.9.4 hotfix 1 and the machine errors with "kfree+60" - it has to be manually rebooted and the bond stays bonded.

I think that was fixed in a later release.

It sounds like the power connector in the NAS has some cracked solder joints. Did he power plug get hit from the side at some point?
Short power glitches could be responsible for your lock-ups.
