ReadyNAS DLNA - OS6
Hi all, I recently bought a Auralic Altair G1 (streamer/DAC/preamp) and I have some issue with playing DSD files with the Auralic. The Auralic can play DSD files. I have a Share folder for music wit...

Could it be possible that DLNA is not compatible
The DLNA protocol itself can handle it, but I'm pretty sure the two servers available in the NAS don't.
- Plex can transcode DSF, but I don't think there's any passthrough mode for it.
- The built-in DLNA (MiniDLNA) doesn't handle it. MiniDLNA has apparently morphed into ReadyMedia, and there is a plug-in that could be installed that is supposed to handle DSD. But I don't believe anyone has looked into getting that to work with the NAS.

On the Auralic forum they say I only need SMB v1 but when I activate SMB only for my share it doesn't show anything in the Lightning DS app.
Do you see the files when you examine the folder from a PC?
I think you will find that the SMB support requires a Lightning Server. Do you have that running?

Not much apps is available for netgear products as a plug in.
The app store is definitely limited. But many things can be installed manually with ssh if you know how. If you have a legacy NAS, then one limitation is the the linux version in the older NAS is also quite old.
FWIW, insisting on running apps natively on a NAS not only limits your options, but also can lock you in later on when you want to add applications or replace the NAS. This could happen with any NAS vendor. One option you might consider is setting up a separate application server that has the media on the NAS mounted. That server could be a PC or linux server (depending on the application requirements, a Raspberry Pi might do). I'm not saying this approach is for everyone, but if you want the most flexibility it is something you might consider.

Yes, when I go with the PC I can see the .dsf files and I can also play them on the PC using Foorbar with DSD plugin.
The auralic see the DSD folders but not the .dsf files contains in the folders.
it's strange on the PC I see the files and not with the Auralic. Maybe it has something to do with the DLNA version in the OS 6.

Yes - as I said earlier, the built in DLNA (minidlna) doesn't support that format.
I think you need to install a lightning server on the PC that is set up to access the NAS media shares, and use that instead of the NAS DLNA. Then the app would see it (when the PC is on). https://support.auralic.com/hc/en-us/categories/200358867-AURALiC-Lightning-Server

Yes, the Auralic Altair G1 as the built-in Lightning Server and when I try this I can play the DSD files.
Well, I have to use Lightning Server or I use Roon but the software is $$$
