If it is RAID1 (not RAID0 or JBOD), then you can work with just one drive and see if you can get things going without risking further corrupting both drives. Do you have a backup of the data (I suspect not from your need to recover the data)?
Have you already tried re-booting? I recommend you not simply do a standard re-boot. That can sometimes make things worse. Instead, do so in support mode as StephenB suggests or have only one drive installed and use the boot menu to boot up in read-only mode. If it won't work on one drive, try just the other. If you get access, then immediately download the log and back-up your files. Then report back here the results, and we can recommend the next step depending on what happens with this one.
If you have the capability, testing both drives with vendor tools may also give some information.

Thanks very much for the advice. I removed one hard drive and booted up in read only mode and was able to see the drive from my PC and backup the data. Many thanks again

Once you've backed up the data, you can try booting with just that drive in normal mode, then add back the other with power on to start a re-sync. Before doing that, though, you may want to test the drive using vendor tools to make sure it's OK. If it fails, you can just start over and recover your data. But if the drive is fine, it should work.
