Shares names Capital Letters changing to lower case
Hi, can someone explain why shares (RN102) named with capital letters (e.g DVD) are shown as lower case when accessing via SMB (e.g dvd)?

Hi,
The changes are visible in MS Windows Explorer .

The short answer is "because it doesn't matter".
Windows, and thus SMB as typically configured, is not case sensitive with regard to file or directory names. "DVD" = "dvd" = "Dvd", etc. This can cause issues if you use a case sensitive file system to create similary named files or directories with only different cases and then access though SMB, though I have not explicitly tried it on the ReadyNAS (I know to avoid it).
SMB does have a case sensitive option, and early ReadyNASes had an option to turn it on (version 3.x, I believe). That still causes issues, though different ones, and the option was deleted in later versions of the OS. I do not know if it can be turned on via SSH, but I wouldn't recommend you do it, even if you can.

The setting can be manually overriden via SSH, but as Sandshark mentioned this does cause issues so it shouldn't be done.
