Slow read speed vs. right speed RN516 and RN214

I'm experiencing much slower read speed than write speed on two different ReadyNas units - RN516 and RN214. Both are hooked to an HP Procurve gigabit switch with cat5e cables. The PC is hooked to the same switch with a cat5e cable. SMB is the protocol. Anti-virus is off on the two NAS units and off on the PC. Below are the results from NAS Performance Tester, where H: is the 516 and K is the 214.

Any ideas on what could be causing this?

Running a 2000MB file write on H: 3 times...
Iteration 1: 57.15 MB/sec
Iteration 2: 51.54 MB/sec
Iteration 3: 75.82 MB/sec

Average (W): 61.50 MB/sec

Running a 2000MB file read on H: 3 times...
Iteration 1: 26.56 MB/sec
Iteration 2: 22.14 MB/sec
Iteration 3: 28.15 MB/sec

Average (R): 25.62 MB/sec

Running a 2000MB file write on K: 3 times...
Iteration 1: 43.47 MB/sec
Iteration 2: 65.40 MB/sec

  • How long have you been experiencing this problem?

Have you tried a different PC?

I suggest checking the network stats on the two NAS - download the log zip file and look in network_settings.log

No clues in the network logs, and a sustained transfer from one of the mapped drives to another shows sustained 80MB/s transfer rates. Bizarre.

Maybe also look in system.log and kernel.log for any btrfs or disk errors.
