How to automate HDParm tweak?

Thanks for that, I've given it a go and restarted the box. I VPN'd in from work to do it, so I don't know if it's taken effect but the device restarted just fine so it looks promising. I'll get back to the forum with the results ASAP in case anyone else if thinking of doing the same with theirs.

Talking of others, for their information I also copied those files to backups ones before I modified them, just in case...

cp /etc/frontview/addons/addons.conf /etc/frontview/addons/addons.conf.old
cp /etc/default/services /etc/default/services.old

Then editted as super-poussin instructed:

vi /etc/frontview/addons/addons.conf

Using instructions here http://www.cs.colostate.edu/helpdocs/vi.html because only sadist know the vi commands off the top of their head ;)

And then:

vi /etc/default/services

To do the last bit. Typed reboot, hit enter and crossed my fingers.
