PHP from WhoCares includes the mysql and mysqli extensions, have you enabled those? viewtopic.php?f=48&t=52765
I answered in another thread here. I noticed in phpinfo() that the additional configuration directory was set, but the config files weren't loading. After enabled, disabling back and forth in the admin area for the addon PHP suddenly loaded all files and now WP and phpmyadmin seems happy.
