Missing MySQL extension

Hi,
i am also having issues with missing mysql extensions and the "Your PHP installation appears to be missing the MySQL extension which is required by WordPress" error message which appears when i try to load the page http://192.168.0.4/Website/wp-admin/install.php through my browser. I have installed the latest php version from WhoCares and have MysqlOn installed and running on my ReadyNas Duo and also PhpMyAdmin (though every time i click on Use PhpMyAdmin in frontview i get an error message saying The mysqli extension is missing. Please check your PHP configuration).
I have managed to create a database through SSH so i am assuming that it is installed correctly & has been configured.
Following all the instructions in these forums has got me this far (a am a complete novice at all of this) and i cant find out anything else which is of any use.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
