There isn't any official "memory requirements" to be checked against as far as i know of, but it's a fairly well known fact that performance suffer with the original memory amount. But in my world you should still be able to get more then 400kB/s. I've been running in the area 2-3MB/s, with the rare 4MB/s showing it's ugly face every week with 2 Sundays in it. I'm not sure, but i don't think anyone squeezed more speed out of transmission then that. You can check cache size, turn off, or set encryption to optional, to try and get a weee bit more, but thats about it.
