HD streaming is actually not very demanding - 8 MB/s will handle full BluRay.
If 4.2.23 doesn't cure it, can you post the mediainfo of an MKV that plays poorly (www.videohelp.com/tools/mediainfo)? Select the text view, and cut/paste into a reply.
