rndx4000 fell from our shelf to floor - can i move disks which look intact to rnd4210 that i have?
I have two RNDX4000 units which both fell to floor after 6 years. The drives seem ok - but the chassis is damaged. I have another RND4210 - adn was wondering if i could put these disks into this ...
The SATA backplanes from the NV, NV+V1, NVX, Ultra4, Ultra4Plus, and Pro4 are interchangeable. I simply don't know about the NV+V2, as I have never had one. Some earlier systems may have an obvious 3rd capacitor for each slot. Don't worry about that, it's for the +3.3V that's not normally used. You can directly swap the drives to any legacy Intel based system with at least 4 drive slots (and still running OS 4.2.x, preferrably the exact same version) and have it work directly. You can put them in a newer system running 6.x and copy the data off with Netgear support assistance.
If you have the model number right, then no. You cannot put the drives from an NVX into an NV+ (V1 or V2) and access them. In fact, doing so will wipe the data as it prepares them for use.
If the seond NAS is actually another NVX or another legacy Intel based system runnng 4.2.x firmware, then the answer is yes. You should try to retain the drive order, though.
There is also a method to recover the data (but NOT just move the drives and keep on truckin') with a new NAS. It requires Netgear assistance, however.

I've have just put together one of the rndx400 chassis and drive and it boots up succesfully and disks are intact And thankfully it sis still working!!! So will abckup this up asap.
- Pls confirm that i can then transfer the disks from the second NAS (whose back plate holding the disks is damaged (can this part be found from somewhere?) But the disks might be good?
- settings were similar except it had a different IP Address?
- Is there any model of NEtgear/REAdynas NAS that will allow me to safely transfer these disks?
