SABnzbd+ Sparc add-on - EXTREMELY slow download speeds

After a long and grueling battle, hours of research, changing of configurations, and testing, time with usenet customer service, etc, I have finally found the cause of my extremely slow (50KB/s-400KB/s) download speeds. It is the SABnzbd+ add-on/ReadyNAS itself. I downloaded an NZB downloader for mac, downloaded an NZB, and bam, 1.5-2MB/s speeds.

I'm at a loss for what to do next. Any ideas from the dev would be appreciated. I have no idea what would be causing the speed issue.

Help! I really dig this new CP + SB + SABnzbd+ setup (after HOURS of setup), and would hate to not use it because of the slow transfer rate. Or...I guess that would be another excuse for me to build a hackintosh, but thats another discussion for another day. ;)

  • I've got the same problem, I recently purchased the sparc bundle containing Python, SB, CP, and Sabnzbd.
On my desktop and my Macbook I get speeds around 10-12 MB/s using a paid usenet account.
However on my NV+ the speed doesn't go over let's say: 400 kB/s. I'm using the same account.
Does anyone has a solution for this? I tried downloading with all other services switched off but the speed stays the same.

The NAS is wired, attached to a TP-Link Gigabit router. All other devices reach much higher speeds so I assume the problem lies within the NV+ or in it's configuration.

    I'm lost!

    Please Note
Due to the limited CPU resources available on the ReadyNAS Sparc line the throughput of SABnzbd on the ReadyNAS may be significantly lower than what you may be used to from running SABnzbd on your client computer. That's not a problem with the software itself but really due to the fact that the CPU in the Sparc models is running at 266MHz max.

  • While this might not be a popular topic, I really did appreciate the user feedback here. I was going to purchase the bundle, but I didn't know how slow Newsgroup downloading would be. It's nowhere as bad for the BT client.

If rates are 50-400kb/s when normally I can get 2.1mb/s, then I'll pass.

    Thanks to those who posted.
