VPN is clear approach if something exists after IPS for trafic decryption (like nordvpn.com). And proxy is not required here just VPN channel from NAS/router to nordvpn.com

The proxy is not required, but clearly it is a connection method that nordvpn provides for their customers.
I agree that a vpn is better suited to the purpose, since socks5 is not encrypted. But a socks5 proxy could still serve as an ISP bypass if the ISP packet inspection doesn't look past the SOCKS encapsulation.
