Transmission 2.42 ReadyNas Duo watch-dir fails

yes folder exists and is correct spelling and captials etc
when i add them manually from interface works no issues
downloads no issue - torrent gets change to .part trashes the original torrent then when download complete puts it in the downloads folder.
what should i be looking for in the logs? i dont see any error or entries to do with watch dir or errors on torrnets, but there is lots and lots of log entereies.
