ACL in LUNs

I everyone,

This is my first post and the reason is a hesitate that i have with the ACL in LUNs.
I´ve got vsphere 4.1 with a ReadyNAS 4200 and I am suffering eventually cut communications with datastores. I´ve open a case with the Technical support and they told me that i must activate the ACLs into the LUNs.

My question is:
¿What is the acls role? ¿How does it works? ¿Which way the acls going to help me?

i affraid to activate in my production environment before to know something about it. I´ve try to find some documentation about ir but i can not find anything. The Netgear documentation leaves much to be desired

Thanks in advance.

  • ACLs are just basically a firewall per IP. I mean, you would set which source IPs will be able to go in or out. May there are a lot of people accessing the service that's why it gets cut off.
  • The ACLs will let you limit what IQNs are allowed to access the LUNs. In this case, only your vSphere systems should be listed there. You don't want a rogue Windows 2012 system connecting to the LUN and corrupting your data store.
