Ad a 2TB drive to a RN 516 (X-RAID2) with one 4TB drive?
I have a brand new RN 516 with only one 4TB disc in bay one up to now. I will expand it time by time with more 4TB discs. But I still have a pretty new 2GB WDC WD2002FYPS disc from my old 1 bay NAS (Icy Box). I would like to use it until the other bays are full, and than replace it with a 4TB disc too.
The OS6 manual describes what happens if you install a second drive same or bigger size than the first and only one (with X-RAID2 enabled). Is it possible to add a smaller disk too in this case? And if yes, what will happen?

- vandermerweMasterNot with xraid.
You'll need to change to flexraid, add the 2 tb disk and create a new volume on the 2 tb disk, ending up with 2 unprotected volumes. You must have a backup, especially if you are not using raid redundancy.
If you create 2 volumes like this you will not in future be able to change to xraid or raid1 or raid 5 without recreating a new volume and restoring data from a backup. - Marto731AspirantFischli,
We advise against smaller disks, as Vandermerwe has said.
