Add 2 smaller disks ReadyNas v2 nv+

Hi,

Ive got the ReadyNAS V2 NV+ with 2pcs of 3TB NAS disks... Now, I would like to add my 2 pieces of old Samsung Raidable 600GB disks as well... Currently I'm using X-RAID. Do I have to re-install and erase those 3TB disks to get this up and running? Do I need to use another RAID version to do this?

My Ultimate Solution (how can I get closest to this):
-2x 3TB Disks running in X-RAID, Width redundant Data (equals 3TB of usable storage)
-2x 600GB Old Samsung Disks, used as one big 1.2TB Unit.

Thanks in advance

    yes.

you would have to factory default (erases any data still on the disks, so backup first).

**** in my opinion all this work is not worth the effort, I would suggest you buy another 3tb drive and let it expand the x-raid volume instead of trying to use 2 old and small drives. *****

with all disks you want to use in the device, factory default, install and run RAIDAR, select FLEX-RAID mode
I've never used flex-raid mode, but I think there is a selection on what volume to create, or skip it. You should skip it if possible, since you want to create the custom volumes above.

Anyway, once booted up and in the web control panel, you should be able to go to the volumes area and delete any pre-made volume and/or create your custom volumes above.

I think you can create only 1 volume at a time, so you would need to wait for the first volume to finish sync before creating the 2nd volume.
  • Hi,

Thanks for your responce. I think I'm gonna have to do more homework on this. I wanted to move those 600GB disks out of my stationary since they are so loud, and the NAS will be placed in another room so it doesn't matter if that one is lod.

However, I also wanted to be able to have two separate volumes in the NAS since my media files don't require redundancy but of course my personal files and documents will be needing redundancy.

    Storage requirements in my NAS

-One big pile of personal documents and files, redundancy and scheduled backups to another device will be needed.
-One big pile of media files, for use with any home device in my network, redundancy NOT wanted, and no backups needed.

Since I had 2-bays free in my NAS I thought I might just as well put those old 600GB units in there to better suit my needs. Still, I would like to be able to buy another NAS if needed to add more storage to the volumes...

    Any last recomendations :)
    Thanks
