It has worked for years with various versions of the firmware so I don't know that matters. I had a guru connect into my modem and the NAS from across the country. He set up the NAS on a static IP and was able to connect to the NAS from an old XP Pro computer by setting up a lmhosts file in the windows\System32\drivers\etc directory and doing a nbrstat or something like that.
For whatever reason, my main PC which is Win 7 Home Premium still refuses to give me Explorer access even after doing the same steps on this PC as on the XP PC.
Seems when I ping the NAS's name, ie. PB it comes back PB.home even though I removed the home domain from the NAS. Also, when I pink the NAS it shows it affiliated with a non-local IP address, i.e. not 192.158. Then today it came back with yet another non-local IP address different than last night.
i regret not making this a Pro version of Win 7 as my guru friend was unable to remote into this PC however after telling him my results he is still stumped on why my two Win 7 PC's refuse to "see" the NAS with Explorer, especially since they can in browser mode and using Acronis, but then those methods don't use NetBIOS.
Also, I used to be able to share folders with the XP machine he was on, now the link for it is "broke", just like the links to the NAS.
Thanks!!
