Very useful link, thank you. Since my original post I have dug out and re-installed my copy of Acronis True Image 2012 and it appears to have worked fine, but as I also want to backup a laptop running Windows 8.1 I've d/loaded the 'trial' version of Acronis True Image 2015 (2012 doesn't support WIN8.1), which also works fine on my Windows 7 Ultimate laptop - haven't tried it on the 8.1 one yet. Acronis are running a good deal at present with an upgrade to latest version includes a free second copy (free license)!
However, I will follow those instructions on that link you supplied and see if that works. If it does, I then have a choice of two methods :) .
