i looked through the backup settings and noticed I couldent access the advanced section it is greyed out and there is an option there that I can't select saying remove deleted files on target is there a way to sort this so when I delete a file from my nas it also removes from the backup too
all help appretiated thanks
Unfortunately the only backup method that supports the "remove deleted files on target" is rsync. You could try running deltasync on the PC.
I suggest adding a suggestion in the idea exchange to add this option to other backup methods (particularly SMB). https://community.netgear.com/t5/Idea-Exchange-for-ReadyNAS/idb-p/idea-exchange-for-storage?topic-zoom=&sort-by=&date-range=all

Would it take special skills to utilise deltasync I have heard about it and rsync seems slightly too complicated to get up and running I am more proficient using Windows

I should have said "deltacopy" - you can find a description here: http://web.synametrics.com/SyncrifyVsDeltaCopy.htm Download information is here: http://external.informer.com/aboutmyip.com/AboutMyXApp%2FDeltaCopy.jsp
Deltacopy is an rsync implementation that runs on windows. Rsync is complicated, but deltacopy should work with the web ui backup job on the NAS (specifying remote rsync server as the backup method).

Yes I had a idea it was called that ok thanks for the help bit of a pain can't see why this wasent already a feature for Windows backups too a lot of other people must want to do the same thing and not everybody has the skills to learn how to do these things especially rsync
will look into deltacopy and Maby look into running rsync via a raspberry pi as a last resort hoping that netgear just implement this feature directly into product
